Application

Fuel stations & flammable storage

Fuel vapour detection and suppression in areas under a special licensing regime.

What we install & maintain

The systems for this type of space

At a fuel station the hazard is leakage and ignition of fuel or gas. The framework is specific and strict, with its own decrees. We handle flammable gas detection, fixed suppression systems and hydrant systems, together with maintenance and calibration.

Regulatory framework

What governs this type of space

Occupancy categoryL4 — fuel station shops, car washes and related uses (P.D. 41/2018, Ch. B, art. 11).
Specific frameworkP.D. 1224/1981 (within town plans) and R.D. 465/1970 (outside), as amended. Law 5290/2026 (art. 4) bans licences for LPG stations, LPG-only or mixed, on the ground floor of multi-storey buildings with homes, shops, offices, hotels, schools, hospitals, care homes or places of public assembly above (a single or two-family house lived in only by the station operator or the person responsible for the station, with their family, is exempt). It also bans adding LPG to stations already operating in such buildings. At existing mixed stations in such buildings, the LPG licence is revoked by 1 December 2027.
Fire detection & alarmIn buildings within fuel stations, except the car-wash section (11.8.2).
SprinklersIn buildings within fuel stations over 300 m², not counting the car wash (11.8.4).
ConstructionAt least 120 minutes' fire resistance; any basement a separate fire compartment with two exits (11.4).

Which framework binds a given building depends on the date the building permit was applied for and on its occupancy classification. The binding requirement comes from the approved fire-safety study.

Frequently asked questions

Fuel stations & flammable storage — what clients ask us

What changed with Law 5290/2026?

Article 4 (new art. 32 of Law 4647/2019) ends the issue of establishment and operating licences for LPG-only or mixed fuel/LPG stations on the ground floor of multi-storey buildings. This applies where the floors above contain homes, shops, offices, hotels, schools, hospitals, care homes or places of public assembly. A single or two-family house lived in only by the station operator or the person responsible for the station, with their family, is exempt. Adding LPG to stations already operating in such buildings is also banned. At existing mixed stations in such buildings the LPG licence is revoked by 1 December 2027; the LPG installation is sealed or removed and the station continues with liquid fuels only. Articles 5-6 also amended the decrees: fencing now follows planning law, and a remote fill point was provided for underground liquid-fuel tanks.

Do you handle gas detection at fuel stations?

Yes — layout design, installation, connection to alarm and shut-off, and periodic calibration with a certificate.
