Application
Underground & enclosed car parks
Enclosed car parks where, depending on size, fire detection, a hydrant system, sprinklers and smoke and heat exhaust ventilation are required; CO detection to control the ventilation is common practice.
What we install & maintain
The systems for this type of space
In an enclosed car park a single car fire quickly fills the space with smoke and heat, often with nobody around. The code requires a hydrant system in every car park (at least a hose cabinet), fire detection above 250 m² and — in basements over 500 m² — sprinklers. We design, install and maintain all of these systems, including carbon monoxide (CO) detection that controls the ventilation.
Fire Water Networks & Sprinkler Systems
Fixed fire water networks, fire hose cabinets and sprinkler systems.

The service →Gas Detection
Fixed detection systems for flammable and toxic gases.
The service →Passive Fire Protection
Fire-resisting doors, fire stopping and fire compartmentation.

What governs this type of space
| Occupancy category | Car parking (P.D. 41/2018, Ch. B, art. 11): L1 ground level · L2 multi-storey above ground · L3 underground. |
|---|---|
| Fire extinguishers | One portable per 5 car or 8 motorcycle spaces (also below 10 spaces) and, in addition, no point more than 15 m from the nearest extinguisher; one wheeled extinguisher and a 25 kg sand bucket with shovel on every floor (11.8.1). Where an enclosed car park has electric-vehicle charging points, at least one additional CO₂ extinguisher (rating at least 55B) per 3 charging points (Law 4710/2020, art. 26(1)). |
| Fire detection & alarm | Automatic detection and manual alarm in every car park over 250 m² (11.8.2). |
| Flammable gas detection | In car parks over 100 spaces, covering each marked area for gas-fuelled vehicles (11.8.2). |
| Fire hydrant system | Permanent hydrant system in all underground car parks (L3) and in above-ground multi-storey ones (L2) over 15 m high; otherwise, and in any car park with fewer than 10 spaces, a hose cabinet (11.8.3). |
| Sprinklers | In every underground car park over 500 m² (11.8.4). |
| Specific framework | P.D. 455/1976 as amended (latest by Law 5290/2026), together with P.D. 41/2018 art. 11 or — for older buildings — P.D. 71/1988 art. 13. |
Which framework binds a given building depends on the date the building permit was applied for and on its occupancy classification. The binding requirement comes from the approved fire-safety study.

Frequently asked questions
Underground & enclosed car parks — what clients ask us
When does an underground car park need sprinklers?
In a new building (P.D. 41/2018), when the underground car park exceeds 500 m². A permanent hydrant system is needed in every underground car park (L3); car parks with fewer than 10 spaces only need a simple hydrant system with a fire hose cabinet (11.8.3).
How many extinguishers does a car park need?
One portable per 5 car spaces (or 8 motorcycle spaces), no more than 15 m from any point, plus one wheeled extinguisher and a sand bucket with shovel on every floor (11.8.1). If the enclosed car park has electric-vehicle charging points, at least one additional CO₂ extinguisher (rating at least 55B) is required per 3 charging points (Law 4710/2020, art. 26(1)). We supply extinguishers across Greece and maintain them within Attica.
What do gas detectors in a car park detect?
Mainly carbon monoxide (CO) from exhaust fumes. The hazard is its toxicity: in a car park, concentrations stay far below the level at which CO can ignite. When the concentration rises, the detectors start the ventilation and the alarm. Separately, in car parks over 100 spaces the code also requires flammable gas detection in the areas for gas-fuelled vehicles.
