Crete–Attica Interconnection
Supply and installation of certified fire extinguishers for the critical infrastructure works.
Application
Self-contained suppression inside the panel or room, with no pipework.
What we install & maintain
In substations, switch rooms and generator rooms water is not an option, and an outage costs as much as the fire itself. Protection relies on fire detection and automatic suppression — mainly with aerosol generators, self-contained units with no pressurised cylinders or pipework, for the whole room or inside the panels themselves. We design, install and maintain them.
Regulatory framework
| Occupancy category | Category B hazardous space (P.D. 41/2018, Ch. A, 6.7, as amended by Law 4710/2020): transformer rooms, generator rooms, switch rooms. |
|---|---|
| Automatic suppression | Required in category B hazardous spaces — with water or another suitable agent (Ch. A, 7.2.3). The code explicitly lists condensed aerosol among automatic systems (Ch. A, 7.2). |
| Portable CO₂ | At least 55B-C rating in electromechanical installation rooms (such as medium or high voltage transformer rooms), so that every point is within 15 m horizontally of a CO₂ extinguisher; at least two (Ch. A, 7.2.1). |
| Fire compartment | The room is a separate fire compartment with fire resistance equal to that required for the building's compartments and not less than 60 minutes, and is not located under or directly next to final exits (Ch. A, 6.7). |
| System standards | Aerosol: ISO 15779 and/or CEN/TR 15276 (Fire Service Ordinance 15/2014, 3.4.5) · gases: EN 15004 (3.4.4.2) · CO₂: NFPA 12 (3.4.4.1). |
Which framework binds a given building depends on the date the building permit was applied for and on its occupancy classification. The binding requirement comes from the approved fire-safety study.

Frequently asked questions
In a building under P.D. 41/2018, yes: transformer, generator and switch rooms are category B hazardous spaces and need an automatic suppression system. In an older building, its fire study applies. However, if it houses a business covered by a Fire Service Ordinance (e.g. offices 17/2016, shops 8/2016, places of public assembly 3/2015, commercial warehouses 6/2018), that ordinance requires a suppression system in medium or high voltage transformer rooms.
It depends on the room and the equipment. Aerosol generators in the room protect all of it; smaller units inside the panel extinguish the fire at its source. The choice is made in the fire study.
Yes — at least once a year and whenever the manufacturer specifies (Fire Service Ordinance 12/2012), by a duly qualified person, with a signed entry in the Inspection and Maintenance Logbook. Aerosol generators are checked for condition and service life. Systems with cylinders (CO₂, gases) also have the cylinders weighed and, when needed, refilled and hydrostatically tested.
